Was Jesus serious?

I don’t know if this guy was a Christian, but reading his story and remembering my Bible, I’m feeling a little convicted.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. ” Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 5: 38-40

“The Christian faith has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found difficult and left untried” – G.K. Chesterton

  1. Thank you Stephen for the NPR story. Maybe I will be able to use it in a sermon. I think Diaz lived out what Jesus meant in the Sermon on the Mount. I have to admit, I would have been so afraid in the same situation that I would have been more than glad for the Teen to go away with my wallet. It would be great to be so close to God, that I would feel secure even in such an event.
