Football (er, Soccer): Much to my chagrin, Spain played beautifully over the weekend, to beat a lacklustre German side (saved from a shellacking only by their goalkeeper) to win Euro 2008, 1-0.

Hockey: The Stanley Cup arrives in my home province. No, I am not going to see it.

Anglicanism: GAFCON final statement means that conservatives vow to fight liberalism in the Anglican Church. I used the CBC story because the debate in the comments section is interesting.

Ethics: A raped 11 year-old gains approval for abortion in Romania, but the Church is split on the decision.

Law: Reason 1,892,476 why you have stupid warnings on everything these days. Man blames manufacturer for his backing over his son in a lawnmower. As we were always told, go for the deep pockets….

Internet: Nicholas Carr asks “is Google is making us stupid?” (His point seems similar to what Neil Postman used to warn us of)

Lord’s Gym: Seriously, I can’t make this up. Where would Jesus work out?

Imagine: Yoko Ono loses the suit designed to keep Ben Stein from using the song “Imagine” in Ben Stein’s film “Expelled”. It’s still fair use to quote others when critiquing them.

Human Rights?: If you’re a Christian in Alberta, this decision should give you pause. The people involved are ordered to say nothing “disparaging”  about homosexuals. (note: not just hateful or defamatory… anything disparaging).

Immigration: Canada fails to renew a work visa because the person (dying of cancer) would put undue strain on our socialized medicine. I’m so glad that we’re compassionate enough to have that,

History: The “Vinegar Bible” is unveiled at a Church in Nova Scotia.

Geekdom: The iphone 2 is expected to be announced today.

er, um, law?!?: Apparently tribunals in Canada and the UK believe that it’s discriminatory for religious (Christian) organizations that receive government funding to discriminate based on religion.

Rapture e-mail: I’m not a premillenialist, but sometimes I’m embarrassed by the things my apparent coreligionists come up with.

Free Speech: The Girl on the Right offers some commentary on the happenings at the BC Human Rights Tribunal.

Crime: Recent news makes me feel so much better to be living in nice, safe, St. John’s (/sarcasm off)

Aid Work: An aid project in Haiti, done by some local medical professionals (I attended their sing along “Sound of Music” fund raiser).

Books: Tim Challies reviews a new book that challenges teens to rebel against low expectations of them (the authors have a website called “the rebelution“.

Culture and Church: Lifeway research finds that the unchurched prefer neo-gothic cathedrals to modern style Churches.

Zimbabwe: As the electoral mess continues, the US contemplates sanctions.

Local Politics: Andy Wells compares city councilors to bubonic plague. Given how Andy has plagued St. john’s politics, is this actually a compliment?

Not so local politics: A mayor in Quebec tells people to move to Mexico if they don’t like snow removal in his town. (Given that there is no snow clearing for sidewalks in St. John’s, maybe they should move here)

Gun Control (or its opposite): Arizona legislators are dealing with arguments for allowing concealed carry of handguns at schools (K-12 and university).

Singles in Church: An article on CTsingles about being single in a family-oriented Church. All I can say is that I’m strangely glad I’m not alone.
